IKSAR combines artificial intelligence and augmented reality to automate retail processes

The team at IKSAR Technologies has developed a prototype digital solution that combines artificial intelligence (AI), computer vision (CV), and augmented reality (AR) on a single device — industrial-grade AR glasses. As a result, store employees can access several familiar functions through one hands-free device, while a range of operational processes can be automated at a new level.

Continuous price tag analysis — a key capability

All price tags captured by the AR glasses’ camera are instantly analyzed to determine whether the displayed price is up to date. This is a common challenge in retail stores operated by large chains. The operator simply scans the shelves in continuous detection mode: outdated price tags are highlighted in red and marked for replacement.
The system can then automatically print the correct price tags using a mobile label printer connected to the AR glasses via Bluetooth, or add them to a print queue for a stationary printer, where the operator can select the required types and sizes.
Computer vision makes it possible to detect multiple outdated prices simultaneously, eliminating the need to scan each price tag individually. The technology also performs reliably when analyzing price tags inside refrigerated display cases through glass.

Scanning, goods receiving, and digital instructions

The IKSAR platform supports barcode and Data Matrix code scanning using the built-in camera of AR glasses. In hard-to-reach areas, a wireless ring scanner can be used instead. Product information is displayed directly in the AR glasses.
Goods dispatch and receiving processes are supported by digital instructions, including voice input, photo and video recording, and incident reporting. A standard completion time can be set for each operation, while the system automatically records the actual time taken. This creates opportunities for more accurate monitoring of staff workload and labor costs.

Remote Expert

The IKSAR platform’s built-in Remote Expert functionality enables video communication between any retail store or distribution center and a qualified specialist in the office.
The operator streams a live first-person video feed, while the expert can provide visual guidance directly through the AR glasses, including graphical annotations over the video stream, as well as send the required documents and instructions.

Technology in action

For testing, the IKSAR Technologies team prepared several models of industrial-grade binocular and monocular AR glasses from different manufacturers, including some of the latest products on the global market. Some of these devices may be available in Russia in only a single unit.
The test results were positive: computer vision and augmented reality technologies running on industrial-grade AR glasses demonstrated significant potential for retail operations. Voice control also performed reliably on most AR glasses, even in the constant noise of a retail environment.
This approach allows employees to keep their hands free for everyday operations — and this is only the beginning. The IKSAR Technologies team continues to develop the platform and expand the range of retail processes that can be automated.
