RealWear Acquires Smart Glasses Innovator Almer with TeamViewer’s Support

About the Deal

In a bid to revolutionize the industrial augmented reality (AR) market, RealWear, a global leader in head-mounted tablets, announced on November 14, 2024, its acquisition of Almer Technologies, a Swiss pioneer in ultra-compact, user-friendly AR headsets. This acquisition, strategically and financially backed by TeamViewer, a leading provider of enterprise AR software, marks a significant step forward in empowering industrial workers worldwide with advanced AR technologies.

As the industrial sector increasingly adopts digital solutions to enhance productivity and ensure workplace safety, the demand for intuitive wearable AR devices is rising sharply. This acquisition combines RealWear’s market leadership with Almer’s innovative approach to meet this growing demand.

The emerging AR landscape is highly fragmented. Consolidation is a global trend in young markets, driving the development of new technologies. "We are no longer confined to innovation labs; we are on the frontlines, making a positive impact on thousands of people every day," said the CEO of RealWear.

About Almer Glasses

Almer’s AR glasses, branded as Arc 2, are sold exclusively through a subscription model, which includes software. At the end of the subscription period, the device must be returned. While this approach may be unfamiliar to Russian companies, it has been widely practiced in Europe and the US across various industries.

The specifications of the Almer Arc 2 meet a wide range of the most in-demand industrial applications for such devices.

Notable technical specifications include:

• A color monocular transparent microOLED display for one eye with a 22-degree field of view

• Lightweight design at approximately 180 grams

• Foldable back section for convenience

• Compatibility with personal protective equipment (PPE)

• Snapdragon XR1 processor (RAM: 4 GB, Storage: 64 GB)

• 25 MP camera, microphone, speakers, gyroscope, accelerometer

• USB-C, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and multiple buttons

• AOSP-based mobile OS

• Battery life sufficient for at least two hours of intensive use, such as video calls

Currently, there is no information on active noise cancellation in the microphones or built-in programmable voice engines. It can be assumed that RealWear will adapt its voice engine and noise cancellation technology, already in use in its devices, for the Almer platform.

The "IKSAR" software platform supports more than 20 different AR glasses models, including RealWear industrial AR glasses. Our team has worked directly with the founders of RealWear, certified their first devices in Russia, and possesses perhaps the deepest expertise in practical applications of these devices in various environments. We are confident that the integration of IKSAR software with Almer’s hardware will be seamless.
